The mayor of Hudson, Wisc. Monday night proposed a 10:00 p.m. curfew for the town’s bars and restaurants in an attempt to keep people from driving over from Minnesota to drink.
The Hudson city council meets Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. to discuss the proposal.
This comes nearly two weeks after new pandemic restrictions in Minnesota temporarily closed dining rooms bars and restaurants, and a day after three people were stabbed in downtown Hudson, one of them fatally, with suspects reportedly seen leaving the area in a van that had Minnesota license plates.
Most restaurants in Hudson already close by 10 at night, but bars stay open longer.
"It will impact them," said Hudson Chamber of Commerce president Maryclaire Olson Potter. "But I also think that we want to have safety for the employees, for the businesses, and for all of their guests, too."
She said city leaders are working to find out the best way to ensure that safety.
The stabbings occurred early Sunday morning, with the three victims discovered by police in three different locations in Hudson’s downtown.
There are no arrests in the stabbings, and police do not know where the suspects came from.
The man who died was 26 years old and there are reports he was from New Brighton, Minn.
Two people were arrested Monday in connection with the stabbing,
Police say the man and woman were taken into custody in Blaine.
