Demand for COVID testing remains very high and state officials are reminding Minnesotans that at-home test kits are now covered by private health insurance plans.
Minnesota Deputy Commissioner of Insurance Julia Dreier says it's wise to call your provider and confirm coverage first, rather than dealing with the reimbursement process after the fact.

"Health plans are very aware that this benefit is available and that they need to be doing something, and they are all working on implementing,” Dreier tells WCCO’s Laura Oakes. “It is new, so we fully expect details to continue to roll out over the coming days and weeks as plans continue to implement this new change.”
Under the new policy, up to eight at-home tests costing up to $12 each are covered. In addition to the home kits, free testing options at the state testing sites, clinics and pharmacies are still in effect.
However, the state is also saying lines at state testing sites remain very long. The Minnesota Department of Health posted the following to Facebook:
“Demand at community testing sites remains very high.
Waiting areas and lines can become busy. When visiting a test site, please wear a well-fitting mask and social distance so you don’t expose others. If you don’t have a mask, see the staff person at the front of the line who will provide you one. It can be hard to distance when lines are long, but try your best to leave space between those behind and in front of you.”
