There is always a lot going on at the State Fair, but it's not all Pronto Pups and Sweet Martha's Cookies.
Walking down Underwood right across from the kiddy rides, there is what looks like a grain silo but it's not. It's a safety home.
"We use these homes as compassionate housing in third world countries," says Darryl Hamlin is a board member with GoServ Global, a non-profit based out of Iowa the serves humanitarian aid to the most vulnerable in communities around the world.
They have 700 of these compassionate homes worldwide with 500 in Haiti. He says it's more than just a new home. It's about service.
"When you come for a couple of weeks on one of these mission trips with us, you'll never be the same again," says Hamlin. "Yes, Pronto Pups are always going to be a favorite, but you won't be so focused on yourself."
GoServ Global and Sukup Manufacturing Co. work to bring disaster relief to families around the world using these Safe T Homes. It's a highly modified grain bin that is resistant to earthquakes, termites and moisture. Grain bin houses, or silo homes, provide refugee housing and day-to-day shelter for families who need a safe place to live.
Go Serve Global has mission trips to Peru, Guatemala and several domestic parts of the U.S. that need relief in 2023.
Hamlin says the mission is to deliver hope to those in need and they're doing their part to spread that word at the Minnesota State Fair.
