Jury selection delayed in Derek Chauvin trial

In what was supposed to lead the day one proceedings of the Derek Chauvin trial, jury selection will be delayed until at least Tuesday.

It stems from an appeals court ruling Friday that opened the reinstatement of third degree murder. The defense is filing a motion to have the state Supreme Court review, but the prosecution’s Matthew Frank argued for a delay and is filing a motion with the court of appeals.

"When we start to get into matters so involved in the trial itself such as the charges and the jury instructions. What the potential jurors are told at the beginning of the trial you create an appeal issue that will only be resolved after the case has been tried."

The court is in recess until 1:30pm CST. The will hear more motions when they return from recess.
