According to report the Associated Press, the race for Minnesota Attorney General has been called, with incumbent Keith Ellison defeating Republican challenger Jim Schultz. Ellison will now go on to serve his second term in office.
Ellison was first elected to the position in the 2018 midterm elections after spending 12 years serving the state's 5th District in the U.S. House of Representatives.
The race has yet to be called for either Ellison or Schultz, but in a statement the Republican challenger said he planned to called Ellison and "congratulate him on his reelection" with the results being clear.
During his time in office, the state of Minnesota has been through a lot, including the summer 2020 George Floyd Protests that saw large parts of Minneapolis either damaged or destroyed.
During his term, Ellison oversaw the prosecution of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who was found guilty of the murder of George Floyd.
Ellison is now set to serve his second term in the position.
