It had been standing for decades in south-central Minnesota.

In seconds, it was turned to rubble.

The old Minnesota Valley Generating Station and its two smokestacks were demolished on Thursday, more than a dozen years after it was last in operation.

The coal-fired plant, which was expanded in the early 1950's, generated 75 megawatts of energy for farms and towns between the Twin Cities and eastern South Dakota.

The smokestacks were both 280 feet high.

Xcel Energy closed the plant in 2009.

The entire demolition process took 12 seconds, and crews that are cleaning the area will recycle what they can.
