Legendary Minnesota sports anchor Tom Hanneman has died.
Hanneman passed away in his sleep Friday morning.
Hanneman had worked for years as the host of Minnesota Timberwolves basketball. He was also a sports anchor for WCCO-TV and later, Fox Sports North.
Hanneman's longtime co-worker on Timberwolves broadcasts, WCCO Radio's Chad Hartman remembered his friend for his wit and being a gentleman.
"Tom Hanneman, who is a quintessential gentleman, filled with kindness, a rock of decency, immense talent, a quicker wit I have yet to find and someone who was an enormous part of my life for the 16-years I broadcast Wolves games with Hanney. So many games. So many bus rides. So many flights. These are hundreds and hundred and hundreds of hours talking about so many important things in my life because he was grounded with common sense and with compassion and would just listen to you. He would make me laugh at some dark times. Important conversations that we would share between the two of us about challenges that we are facing in our lives. I just haven't met a person in my life than Tom."
Hartman continued, "I can assure you everybody who speaks highly of Tom, and they'll do it, we still won't get there because he's just that good of a person and this world is lessor, by a lot, because Tom's not here but we are better because Tom was here."
Former co-workers, friends and fans of Hanneman took to social media to remember him.
This is a breaking story. Check back for updates as we receive them.
