Minnesota LGBTQ leaders are reacting to a new policy change by Pope Francis that now allows Catholic priests to bless same-sex couples.
In a radical new change in Vatican policy, the Pope is now recognizing LGBTQ church members and relationships for the first time in the church’s history.
Director of Communications for Outfront Minnesota, Seth Goodspeed, shared his group’s reaction to the news.
“We acknowledge that this is a significant step forward, but there’s still a long way to go,” Goodspeed said.
He says he hopes this will start a conversation among other faiths about inclusion.
“I would invite all communities of faith to want to work towards greater LGBTQ+ equity in our society, and especially here in Minnesota,” Goodspeed added.
The Pope was clear in saying there should be no barriers to a blessing as long as they are kept separate from the sacrament of marriage.
