Live your Healthy Lyfe block party takes place Saturday in North Minneapolis. Founder of the event, Teto Wilson says the purpose is to help a community that often gets overlooked.

"A lot of these health care systems right here in the Twin Cities," says Wilson. "They were saying that they realize they have not been a good friend to the African American community. So we decided to take them to task and ask them to come into the community and provide health care services for people where they live."

He says African Americans die at a higher rate than other ethnic groups when comes to high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease.

"A lot of it has to do with just barriers to access to health relationship with healthcare, networks, health care insurance," explains Wilson.

They're not just focusing on physical health, but mental, housing and banking health as well.

Now in it's third year, the event has expanded its reach to the Hispanic and Latino communities as well, and helps to provide the education and resources these groups of people have been lacking.

"And a six hour event is not gonna help heal all of the wounds that have been in place for decades," Wilson says. "But at least when the different agencies and networks are on ground, you know, the people that come to the event can start to develop relationships and start to kind of get in better positions all across the board."

The event is from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on West Broadway Avenue between Penn and Logan Avenues in North Minneapolis.
