Minnesota’s pheasant hunting season gets underway this weekend, and the lieutenant governor is well-prepared.

With a scan of her credit card and the signing of the proper paperwork, Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan obtained her small game license in advance of this coming weekend’s Governor’s Pheasant Hunting Season opener.

Flanagan has hunted pheasant a half dozen times before, but that doesn't mean it's been successful.

"How many birds I've gotten is zero," she said. So, pheasants forever. Yeah, that's right. Forever, I take that very seriously."

One reason Flanagan is optimistic, she’s taking her brand-new, custom made 20-gague Benelli Ethos shotgun to the opener, which takes place in Sleepy Eye.

"Quite honestly having a firearm that is, you know, made for me and the gunsmith did a great job," Flanagan explains. "And it fits me and I'm excited. I think that will be helpful."

Flanagan says this will be “the year" she bags her first one.

She also says this is one of the favorite events of Governor Tim Walz, but did not know if he’ll be able to make the trip. Walz has been busy on the campaign trail as the Democratic nominee for vice president on the Kamala Harris ticket.
