
USA Basketball making it official this morning at a press conference at Target Center.
Minnesota Lynx head coach and general manager Cheryl Reeve is the new head coach of the U.S. national women's basketball team.
“You know, really exciting,” Reeve said at a press conference introducing her as the head coach Tuesday. “Really exciting opportunity. And I just feel incredibly blessed to work with the best athletes in the world. I’m excited about the opportunity to bring as all together and try to qualify for the Olympics and try and compete for gold.”
The 55-year old Reeve has coached the Lynx since 2010, winning WNBA titles in 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017. Reeve has served as an assistant coach on the gold medal winning Olympic teams in 2016 and 2021.
She'll replace Dawn Staley, who stepped down in August.
Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx owner Glen Taylor also congratulated Reeve on being named the national coach Tuesday.
“Becky and I are thrilled for this historic opportunity for Cheryl to lead our country as the new Head Coach of the USA Basketball Women’s National Team,” Taylor’s statement reads. “We have been fortunate to witness Cheryl’s leadership and success over the years and look forward to her continuing her journey and remarkable legacy with both the Lynx and USA Basketball.”
