The drama of Monday night's WNBA Draft won't start for a while for the Lynx, who now has the number eight overall pick.
The drama really won't start for anyone until the second overall pick by the Los Angeles Sparks.
That's because Caitlin Clark is available to the Indiana Fever with the top overall selection.
It's the ultimate no-brainer that even the Vikings would be hard-pressed to foul up.
The entrance of Clark and other high-profile college players is adding to the excitement that Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve says is already part of the WNBA.
"Incredible talent and personalities of the past that did phenomenal things, that I think are getting their shine a little bit more now because I think these players coming in are starting to recognize 'hey, we need to pay our respects to those who came before us,'" Reeve told Vineeta Sawkar on the WCCO Morning News.
Indeed, Clark did just that during her acclaimed appearance on last weekend's Saturday Night Live broadcast.
She listed several players, including Lynx all-time great Maya Moore.
"My all-time favorite," Clark said, before heaping more grief on Weekend Update co-anchor Michael Che and his past rants against women's sports.
Here's how the first round of the WNBA Draft stacks up:
1. Indiana
2. Los Angeles
3. Chicago
4. Los Angeles
5. Dallas
6. Washington
7. Chicago
8. Lynx
9. Dallas
10. Connecticut
11. New York
12. Atlanta
The Lynx also have the 31st overall selection in the draft.
"It's just an incredible time in women's sports," said Reeve. "Really excited for those players to see their dreams come true."
Reeve is also the president of basketball operations for the Lynx, and said the front office has been hard at work on the draft.
That includes a late dealk with Chicago that dropped the Lynx to the eighth pick.
"We positioned ourselves to pick up some future assets," Reeve said. "It's very, very subjective when you get past the first couple picks, and so we'll have to see how this thing shakes out."
The excitement is reflected in Lynx ticket sales, with Reeve noting that revenue projections for 2024 are "blown out of the water."
As for tickets remaining for Clark's first appearance at Target Center, scheduled for July 14...
"I'm not on the business intelligence side, so I don't know," Reeve said.
