The National Weather Service is issuing a Winter Storm Warning that starts at 3pm on Tuesday and runs through 6pm Thursday
"As much as everyone talks about the '91 blizzard all the time, if the higher end of the models we look at verify, this could be the storm people talk about going forward," said Meteorologist Nick Carletta with the National Weather Service.
Some of the counties included in the storm warning are Wright, Hennepin, Ramsey, Washington, Carver, Scott, Dakota, Le Sueur, Rice, Goodhue, Waseca and Steele.
Carletta says we can expect heavy snow with accumulations of between 18 to 22 inches, and winds gusting as high as 45 mph.
He says this system will likely impact travel, making it difficult to impossible in some areas, and that the best thing we can do now is to make sure we are prepared.
"Have your groceries ready," he said. "This is not a storm to mess with."
