A St. Paul man is facing charges of attempted 2nd degree murder, after allegedly attacking a woman at a light rail station with the wooden leg of a table.

20-year old Jerrod Johnson is accused of chasing after a woman at the Fairview and University Green Line station around 5:45 Tuesday, holding the table leg while trying to keep his pants on.

Police say when he finally caught up with her, he swung the leg like a baseball bat, ultimately hitting her 21 times and knocking her out.

The woman, who has not been identified, has been hospitalized with a head injury, and several other broken bones. They found her bleeding heavily from her head and face.

The criminal complaint says the woman was continually hit for nearly 20 seconds after becoming unconscious, highlighting the viciousness of the attack.

Johnson is also facing charges in Hennepin County, after attacking and punching a woman near the Government Center in downtown Minneapolis.

Police say both victims had no knowledge of their attacker.
