A Maple Grove man is in custody, charged with making threats of violence as retaliation for the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
A criminal complaint filed in Hennepin County details threatening emails 64-year old John Allan Sandeen sent to the music director at a church in Maple Grove and others.
County Attorney Mary Moriarty says Sandeen referred to Kirk as his friend multiple times and promised to commit numerous acts of violence against the targeted individuals as retribution.
“These threats are chilling and extremely graphic,” Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said. “Our community is still reeling from the recent assassination of Rep. Melissa Hortman and Mark Hortman, and attempted assassinations of Sen. John Hoffman, Yvette Hoffman, and Rep. Kristin Bahner. We will not tolerate threats of politically motivated violence and will do everything in our power to hold those who make these threats accountable.”
Sandeen also allegedly made sweeping threats against “liberal and left-leaning people,” and specific ethnic groups.
Moriarty calls the threats chilling and extremely graphic, and says they will not tolerate threats of politically motivated violence.
