A drain worker who was stuck for several hour in a 14-foot hole in Minneapolis was rescued early Thursday morning by Minneapolis fire rescue crews and the St. Paul Fire Rescue Squad.
Around 9:28 p.m. Wednesday Minneapolis fire crews were called out on a report that a worker with a private company was stuck in a hole located in the front of 3848 13th Avenue South. Rescue crews found the man in a minimally shored-up hole approximately 5 x 10 feet, pinned under sand just above is waist.
Crews spent several hours trying free the man, using a tripod above the hole with a rope connected to a body harness to get the harness around him as a street department vacuum truck suctioned the sand out of the hole.
Eventually the St. Paul Fire Rescue Squad was called to the scene where they worked with Minneapolis crews to stabilize the hole as sand was vacuumed out.
After about six hours, the man was pulled out and he was able to walk to an ambulance under his own power where he was taken to the hospital for further evaluation.
No other injuries were reported.
