An all out ban on cell phones at Maple Grove Middle School has students changing their behavior in the classroom.
For one year the school has had a strict no cell phone policy leading to what Principal Patrick Smith calls an improvement in student conduct.
"Kids are happy they're engaging with each other," says Smith who was on the Chad Hartman Show on WCCO Radio Wednesday. "The hallway behavior is just night and day."
He says it didn't take much convincing to get parents and teachers on board.
"Nobody has ever pushed back," says Smith. "I mean, in my experience, not one parent or community member has come in and said this is bogus, you shouldn't be doing this, our kids should be able to have their phone. It's been very, very much supported by our community and our parents and our staff."
Students are still allowed to have phone on them on them at school but are asked to leave them put away.
