Later this week, “Being Mary Tyler Moore,” a documentary focusing on the life of the famed actress and her show, set in Minneapolis, will air on HBO Max.

Matt Roush from TV Insider.com joined News Talk 830 WCCO’s Vineeta Sawkar to discuss the show and what fans of the late actress can expect.

“With unprecedented access to Mary Tyler Moore’s vast archive, ‘Being Mary Tyler Moore’ chronicles the screen icon whose storied career spanned sixty years,” HBO shared in a description of the documentary on its website.

Roush shared that her roles in her own show, as well as in its predecessor, “The Dick Van Dyke Show,” have left a lasting impact on an entire generation.

“In terms of cultural impact, Mary Tyler Moore really is just one of the most significant figures of the 20th century,” Roush said.

The TV insider shared that the documentary will look at her life and career, including some darker parts she struggled with, like alcoholism and the loss of her son to suicide.

Roush also noted that the documentary will go over her accomplished career that saw her earn or be nominated for numerous awards, as well as playing one of the most iconic characters of the last century.

“Her image as Mary Richards is one of those that lives on today, and that was just one of the classic sitcoms of all time,” Roush said.
