Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and other city leaders have cut the ribbon on downtown's newest attraction. It’s a 2,000 square foot glass beer garden at The Butcher's Tale.
The new addition to the restaurant on Hennepin Avenue also boasts retractable walls to either keep the weather out, or let the weather in according to General Manager Chad Waldon.
“All of the retractable walls in the building open up the entire enclosure to 11 feet,” Waldon explains. “So it has a really tall, broad look of the entire landscape. The outside is really built up with gardens. We got a lot of trees and flowers and plants and that sort of thing growing in between to kind of create a little oasis in downtown.”
Waldon says the beer garden atrium is a permanent structure and will be open year-round.
“This is a permanent, year round structure that we'll be doing service out of year round, heated in the winter, air conditioned in the summer when we need to close it,” says Waldon.
The Butcher’s Tale at 11th Street and Hennepin is a reinventing of Butcher & the Boar, which was a beloved downtown Minneapolis destination for a number of years before closing in 2020 during the pandemic.
The Butcher’s Tale specializes in artisanal meats, sausages and slow-cooked meats along with some of the best bourbons and other brown spirits available in the region.
