A multiagency sting addressing violent robberies and carjackings resulted in 46 arrests between Friday and Sunday according to the Minneapolis Police Department.
The arrests included 69 felony charges. Along with the arrests, police recovered 15 firearms and 12 stolen vehicles.
“A few months ago, we ran a similar detail. We saw a reduction in these types of crimes. We promised our residents at that time that if necessary, we would run this public safety detail again. We continued to watch the data and listened to our residents. As you can see from these numbers, the need was there," said Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo. "The Minneapolis Police Department, and our law enforcement partners, continue to be committed to addressing violent crime that has impacted parts of this City."
The sting included the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office along with the Minnesota State Patrol.
Last year, carjackings were up 301% in Minneapolis compared to 2019. 405 cars were stolen in 2020 according to figures released by MPD.
