On Monday, Minneapolis leaders discussed their public safety reform efforts, proposing a contract with the NYU School of Law.
The City is set to enter a contract with the New York University School of Law's Policing Project that would end in over-reliance on police.
Minneapolis public safety commissioner Todd Barnett says he is proud about the partnership.
"Today is another step in building out the Minneapolis safe and thriving community report," says Barnett.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Fry says during current response efforts, police have too many roles to play.
"Doing everything from arresting people to doing social work to mental health response and a whole other array of services that they can't provide, are not going to provide it, or are not equipped to do so," says Frey.
The $1 million, two-year contract was approved by a City Council committee and will be heard by the full council later this week.
