The Minneapolis DFL is appealing the decision by state party leaders to vacate their endorsement of Omar Fateh for mayor of the city.

The Minnesota Democratic Party made the move last month, saying the voting for Fateh at the Minneapolis DFL convention in July was flawed.

This came after the state party's constitution, rules and bylaws committee conducted an investigation of the voting.

In addition to revoking the endorsement, the state party put the Minneapolis DFL on probation for two years.

The Minneapolis party leaders say the state's ruling was deeply flawed, and that there were conflicts of interest among those leading the investigation.

In a statement, the Minneapolis DFL said the state party has "disenfranchised the Minneapolis delegates, mischaracterized their process, and imposed an undemocratic decision of their own on our city. Reversing this misstep by the CRBC, and bringing the party back together, is essential for DFL victories this year and in 2026."

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey is running for a third term.
