Minneapolis Police continue to investigate the first reported homicide in the city in two months.
Investigators say 27-year old Davione Collins of Maple Grove was shot in the neck Saturday night outside an apartment building in the 2000 block of West River Road where his car had crashed.
The man, who was in his 20s, was in a car that had crashed into the garage entrance of the building, Police Chief Brian O’Hara said, noting that "we must all stand up to this kind of violence."
It's not known when Collins was shot, and there are no arrests. Police are asking anyone who knows what happened to call Crimestoppers.
O'Hara is crediting the recent drop in crime to the dozens of federal prosecutions against gang members, along with the work of uniformed officers and unity-based organization.
The city’s last homicide occurred February 15. The city has been touting a drop in crime numbers overall, especially with gun violence on the city's north side.
