Classes and activities are canceled Thursday and Friday in Minneapolis over safety concerns according to Minneapolis Public Schools which announced the move late Wednesday evening following the deadly ICE shooting and ensuing protests earlier in the day.
In an email and a message posted online, the district cited “Safety concerns related to today’s incidents around the city” as the reason for the closure.
Minneapolis Public Schools said they would not move to e-learning, due it only being allowed for severe weather.
Closures on Thursday and Friday also mean there will be no extracurriculars, including athletics.
Wednesday's killing of a 37-year-old Renee Good by ICE agents in Minneapolis did not prevent agents from continuing operations in other areas of the city, including outside Roosevelt High School in south Minneapolis which only a few miles from where Good was gunned down.
A video from the scene shows agents deploying chemical irritant on a crowd that included students and staff. One person was shown on the ground surrounded by immigration agents.
