Minneapolis Animal Care and Control touring their facility to help homeless pets

If you've been thinking of adding a four-legged friend to your family, maybe today's the day.

Minneapolis Animal Care and Control isn't your typical city dog pound.

"We even do field trips where you can take a dog out for an afternoon, so you can pick him up in the morning, drop him off in the afternoon, have a great day in between. We know that pet ownership is not going to be on the table for everybody, so what can we do to get these animals out of their kennels, even for an afternoon," says community engagement coordinator Madison Wisenborn.

She says fostering is an option and in many cases adoption fees are waived.

The shelter is teaming up with the North Shore Animal League's mobile unit in hopes of placing as many friends as they can this holiday weekend.

"People need animals, and we've got plenty of them," Wisenborn adds. "And our animals need people. So it's like, what can we do to shorten their stay, get them out of their kennels and have fun?"

The tour lasts through 6:00 p.m. on Friday, May 22 at Minneapolis ACC (212 17th Avenue), where they be highlighting their adorable, adoptable animals on board the Animal League America Mobile Unit.

Since its launch in 2000, more than 37,000 animals have been adopted into homes through the Tour For Life initiative.
