Minneapolis’ Wrecktangle Pizza received quite the honor on Friday. Their Breakfast Pizza won “Good Morning America’s “United States of Pizza” competition.
It was the pizza with a twist that won over a majority panel of guest judges during Friday’s finale showdown. The judges were former NFL player and television personality, Tiki Barber; Chef, The Food Network TV Host and author, Aarti Sequeira; Owners of Artichoke Pizza and television personalities of “Pizza Master,” Sal Basille and Francis Garcia.
Jeff Rogers from Wrecktangle Pizza talked about the moment they won on DeRusha Eats.
“Well, yeah, I mean, it was surreal,” says Rogers. “As you know, doing a lot of live TV, it's an odd beast, but, it was really, really, really fun to be there and a true honor to be around and to be representing this pizza scene and the restaurant scene and the national spotlight is absolutely insane. So very, very jazzed over here.”
“GMA” traveled the U.S. in a week-long competition to find the best pizza in the country, and the following winners from the first-round competitions squared away live in NYC Friday morning.

Atlanta’s Phew’s Pies
Chicago’s Milly’s Pizza in the Pan

Philadelphia’s Pizza Jawn
Earlier this week, Wrecktangle defeated Red Wagon Pizza in a Minnesota finale.
Rogers explained his pizza style to DeRusha earlier this week, which is not the traditional round style of pizza you might be used to seeing.
"We do a sort of Detroit style pizza and in the fact that there's the cheese crust and the nice light bread,” explains Rogers. “And then after that we stay away from the traditional Detroit style pizza. When we were talking initially, it was supposed to be something that was a little bit out of the box and not your run of the mill pepperoni and whatnot. We really, really love our breakfast pizza and we were up at three o'clock, so, ‘Ooh, let's, let's do breakfast, let's make everybody breakfast’, is we really love that pizza.”
The win comes with a $10,000 cash prize for Wrecktangle, but Rogers said just being a part of the conversation is what’s important to him.
“I'm excited just to be a part of this, really, just, just to be there,” he says. “I've never been to New York. We're really excited. We're bringing a crew, so it should be really, really fun.”
Wrecktangle Pizza has a couple different locations. You can find them in the North Loop in downtown Minneapolis, the Lyn Lake neighborhood of South Minneapolis and the market at Malcolm Yards near the University of Minnesota campus.
