The Minnesota Freedom Caucus announced its formation Monday.
Republican State Senator Eric Lucero is the first chairman of the group that they say will focus on conservative issues.
"We believe Minnesota's best days are still ahead if those elected in elected office have the courage to lead with constitutional principles to protect individual liberty, and equal opportunity which leads to prosperity," Lucero explained.
Lucero says the Freedom Caucus is not breaking away from the Republican Party's initiatives.
Appearing at the introductory press conference were the nine founding members of the Caucus, which to begin with are all men.
Lucero does add that the caucus will ultimately include "authentic women and not men pretending to be women."
The Caucus House leader is State Representative Drew Roach (R).
"We will fight every day to earn your trust and deliver results," Roach said. "The era of unchecked progressive overreach ends here. The Minnesota Freedom Caucus is ready to lead, ready to fight, and ready to win back the Minnesota we love."
Roach called the Minnesota Freedom Caucus a unified block of principled conservatives in both the House and Senate. The group also remains part of the Minnesota Republican caucus.
