The state's new paid family and medical leave law is giving a big boost to local temp agencies. Since the program went into effect January 1, many businesses have been scrambling to fill positions.

True Talent's Stacey Stratton says they've been busy since December.

"Over 90% of our business is contract workers, so on the marketing and creative side. So for us it's been amazing, on the side of like extra requests," Stratton explains. "So we're getting a lot more people to work. Our business is up over like 17% of what it was last year."

They specialize in writers, designers, project managers, videographers, all of them looking for work. And for many, it's paying off.

"One of them that we just placed, literally they're like, 'we want to hire her.' That's incredible," Stratton explains. "We've got another one that's like, 'can I stay?'"

What it comes down to is, if you're unemployed? Now is a great time to seek a temp agency.

"They're scared, but the good thing is that we've got enough people in the job search," Stratton says. "And on the fractional side of things, or people who wanna work contracts. The world has changed the way that people work, and so there are enough people to really fill the gaps on that side of things."

She says the 17% they are up from last year came on the heels of what was already a record amount.
