Minneapolis Police say a missing 1-year-old boy who was inside a vehicle that was stolen Saturday afternoon in north Minneapolis has been found safe.
The Minnesota BCA confirmed that boy was found in Brooklyn Center.
The boy, Da’Merion Ni’Mer White, was reported missing after the car he was inside was stolen in north Minneapolis shortly after 12:15 p.m. Saturday.
According to police, the mother of the child had run into her home one 4200 block of Humboldt Avenue North for a brief moment only to find the car and her son missing.
An AMBER Alert was issued just before 2 p.m. by the Minnesota BCA.
John Elder, Director of Information for Minneapolis Police, says a 9-1-1 call to Brooklyn Center Police led officers to the boy.
"The caller had heard information from local media of the missing vehicle and child," Elder said. "The caller then received an AMBER Alert, which further prompted her to call 9-1-1."
Elder credited the AMBER Alert issued by the Minnesota BCA for leading to the child's safe discovery.
"The AMBER Alert is a little bit of a delay, but the folks at the BCA are so receptive and responsive, we completely respect the need to go through one central system for this," he said. "The AMBER Alert is really the highest level of alert we have and the BCA does an incredible job administering that everything that goes out meets the criteria."
There are no arrests in connection to the kidnapping or car theft.
