Snowy? Sir Plows A Lot? The Plow Monster? These could be the names of the snowplow waking you up early in the morning and blocking your car in your driveway this winter season.

The Minnesota Department of Traffic is starting its second annual “Name a Snowplow” contest to find the most creative name for the machines that make it safer for you to get to work.

Last year was the first year that MnDOT held its contest, and now the public is invited to name eight snowplows, one snowplow for each MnDOT district in the state.

MnDOT shared in a press release that the rules are simple; be creative. People are encouraged to be as witty, unique, or punny as possible with the snowplow names.

The submission form is open now through midnight on Dec. 15, 2021, and all participants can submit up to three name ideas.

Submissions are limited to 30 characters, previous winners will not be considered, meaning Plowy and McPlowFace are off the table, and politically inspired names will not be considered.

Once the submission form closes, the MnDOT staff will review the suggested names and select up to 50 finalists for the public to vote on, starting in January 2022.

For more information or to keep up with the contest, visit the MnDOT social media accounts.
