Mid-July warmth is expected to follow storms packing wind gusts and large hail on Monday.

WCCO Radio Meteorologist Paul Douglas telling Vineeta Sawkar during the WCCO Radio Morning News that three to four-inch hail was reported around Montevideo and west of Granite Falls.

"Any hail over one inch is considered severe," Douglas said. "Those storms could clip the metro by 10 a.m. and it could be severe."

Following the morning threat of severe weather, another threat is expected to develop south and east of the metro in the later afternoon and early evening hours.

"Southeastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin, that could be a severe line of storms, too," he said. "With the warmth, humidity, and instability we have to put up with these thunderstorms as well."

Warm, humid weather is expected to develop on Monday afternoon with temperatures in the low to mid-80s.

Paul added that tornadoes are unlikely.

"There's a slight chance in southeastern Minnesota and southwest Wisconsin this evening," he said. "Very slight chance. It doesn't look terribly impressive. In this kind of a set-up, you just can't rule out an isolated spin-up."
