Authorities are releasing more information on Sunday's fatal domestic violence incident in Marshall, Minnesota.
The Ramsey County Medical Examiner says 35-year old Meredith Martell died from multiple sharp-force injuries. 41-year old Jamel Moore was shot and killed by a veteran Marshall police officer who is on administrative leave.
According to the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension who is investigating, the officer arrived at the home early Sunday morning where a child flagged him down and directed him into the house.
The officer found Moore on top of Martell, repeatedly stabbing her as she laid on the floor of the bedroom closet. Authorities say Moore refused to drop the knife, was tased to no effect, and again refused the officer's commands. Then then shot Moore twice.
No children in the home were hurt. Moore died from gunshot wounds and Martell died as well.
BCA crime scene personnel recovered two knives at the scene. The officer was wearing his body camera during the incident. BCA agents are reviewing the video as part of the active investigation.
The Marshall Police Department asked the BCA to investigate this incident. Once the investigation is complete, the BCA will present its findings without a charging recommendation to the Lyon County Attorney’s Office for review.
