Severe weather set to continue for much of central and southern Minnesota

It could be a dicey afternoon and evening weather-wise as the Storm Prediction Center has much of Minnesota, including the Twin Cities under a moderate risk of hail, dangerous winds and even a tornado or two.

Rain and some storms moving through the metro this morning before a break in the action.

The National Weather Service reporting that we will have an outbreak of severe thunderstorms this afternoon accompanied by damaging winds.

Jacob Beitlich s a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Chanhassen.

"If you do receive a warning, if there is a storm in your area we want folks to take is seriously," says Beitlich, "this is more significant severe weather were looking at."

He says we will also see storms this morning that won't be as strong, but could produce hail.

Minneapolis city officials are preparing for severe weather this afternoon

The city is extending it's 311 call center hours to 9 pm to take storm-related calls and will be closing all of it's public-facing non-emergency city facilities at 2 pm.

Officials are also taking  flood mitigation procedures, including cleaning drains.

Resident's are being asked to secure outdoor furniture in preparation for strong winds, prepare for potential power outages and be ready to take immediate shelter if a tornado hits.

WCCO TV Meterologist Chris Shaffer says the next and more concerning storms will be moving through this evening.
