The new COVID booster shot will be reaching clinics and pharmacies soon after the Food and Drug Administration approved it Monday.

The booster still needs approval from the CDC, but that’s expected quickly, and officials say vaccinations could begin later this week.

Hennepin Health Care Dr. Hannah Lichtsinn said that certain groups are being encouraged to get the shot more than others.

“It’s most important that our highest-risk community members get the vaccine,” Lichtsinn said. “So that’s going to be folks who are 65 and older or with higher risk medical conditions.”

The COVID booster and this year’s flu vaccine can be given at the same time.
