Law enforcement vehicles from all over the state paved the way for fallen Pope County Sheriff's Deputy Joshua Owen on Monday as his body was returned home from the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office in Ramsey this morning.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz discussed Owen’s sacrifice on Monday, saying that the “loss of an office in the line of duty is horrific in every circumstance.”

The governor offered his sympathies to Owen’s family, acknowledging the hurt that they are experiencing.

“Our deepest sympathies to a grieving family,” Walz said. “This is not only a sheriff’s deputy and someone who was just recently acknowledged as a hero for saving a neighbor in a fire, but a husband, a father, uncle.”

Owen was shot by a suspect over the weekend while responding to a domestic assault call. Two other officers who were injured continue to recover.
