One charge added, one charge dropped in July 4th fireworks incidents

The Hennepin County Attorney's Office is charging another person in connection with the 4th of July fireworks chaos at Boom Island Park in Minneapolis.

20-year old Iyub Qays Ali makes his first court appearance Friday.


In addition, authorities have decided not to charge a 17-year-old who was accused of shooting fireworks at Minneapolis police, saying the case lacks sufficient evidence. 18-year old Zamir Yassin also was charged in connection to the incident on July 7.

Videos posted online show those shooting off fireworks on the night of July 4 aiming fireworks at nearby cars, pedestrians, homes and law enforcement responding to the scene.

Minneapolis police along with multiple Minnesota State Patrol troopers were at Boom Island Park, as well as Bde Maka Ska, in an effort to subdue the unruly crowds.

In total 16 people were arrested on the Fourth of July in Minneapolis for discharging fireworks at people. They included 11 juveniles and five adults.
