One person is dead after an overnight homicide in St. Paul's Payne-Phalen neighborhood.

Yellow crime tape surrounds the brick apartment complex at the corner of Maryland Avenue East and North Mendota Street in St. Paul.

Police responded to a report of shots fired just after 1:30 Wednesday morning and found an adult male who had been shot. He died at the scene and so far, no suspects have been arrested.

"We're just getting to the process of trying to determine what led to his death," says St. Paul Sgt. Mike Ernster. "We don't have all the answers yet."

Ernster adds they received multiple calls about the shots being fired and somebody yelling for help.

Police are still investigating the scene. The victim will be identified later by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner. This latest homicide is the city's eleventh of the year.

St. Paul Police are asking anyone with possible information to call 652-266-5650.
