A shooting left one person dead and two others critically injured late Wednesday night in north Minneapolis.

According to the Minneapolis Police Department, officers who were processing a crash scene heard multiple shots ring out at 8:20 p.m. from the Gold Star Foods parking lot in the 800 block of Lowry Avenue North.

"I think this, just speaks volumes to the challenges that we're facing," said MPD police chief Brian O'Hara. "This is a scene here where from what we know so far, there were at least three guns on the scene, and it just shows the, you know, the the crisis that we're facing."

MPD says two adult men approached a man and a woman seated inside an SUV. One of the men walked to the driver's side and that door opened before the driver drove the vehicle in reverse, dragging one of the men by the driver's side door.

At some point, the second male approaching the SUV fired shots. The vehicle then became stuck in a snow bank and the first man to approach the vehicle ran and collapsed on Lowry Avenue. He died at the scene.

The man and woman inside the SUV were both hit by gunfire. The injured female was transported by ambulance to HCMC. The injured male who also received CPR was transported by ambulance to North Memorial.

At least three guns were found at the scene and police are searching for the other man who fled the scene.

"It's an incredible challenge for us, to be able to partner with all of our law enforcement partners, and also partner with our community organizations to try and take as many guns out of the hands of people who should not have them before, situations like this happen," added O'Hara.

No arrests have been made.
