A woman is dead after a shooting this morning in north Minneapolis. It happened near Plymouth and Gerard in north Minneapolis. WCCO’s Susie Jones was there as an emotional scene unfolded.

One of the bystanders to the shooting was Lisa Clemens. Clemens is the founder of “A Mother’s Love”, a grassroots organization made up of African American mothers and fathers trying to end gun violence.

Clemens told Jones that a man and a woman were homeless and living in an RV when shots were fired by someone “driving by”, hitting the woman and killing her. Clemens says the surviving man has mental illness.

“I have to give much respect to the Minneapolis Police Department because they allowed the chaplains to come in, A Mother's Love to come in, community members to come in, to try to work with him, to calm him down,” Clemens explained.

Clemens says at one point officers used a Taser on the man when he tried to get a gun out of the RV and hurt himself.

“I made sure that there were no knees on his neck, that he was not harmed in any way,” says Clemens. “They did not make me move from right there.”

Police in Minneapolis are still searching for the suspect.
