Some were awoken by the pounding on their roof.

Others were soaked to the skin after attending the concert of their lives.

But after what sounded like a fierce rainstorm thundering through the region was really just a drop in the bucket to what the Twin Cities needs to get out of drought conditions.

"I'd say it's more something average this time of year," said Caleb Grunsky of the National Weather Service in Chanhassen. "Some places got just about an inch."

And just about an inch is a downpour compared to the region's lack of precipitation this spring.

At Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, the Saturday night-Sunday morning rain measurement was .43 inches.

There was a half-hour period where MSP got more rain than what's hit there the entire month of June.

All that means the area's drought deficit is still very real.

"We need another 2-3 inches to really help us out," said Grunsky.
