One of the Twin Cities’ most acclaimed pizza spots is shutting their doors the end of the year.
Robbinsdale restaurant Pig Ate My Pizza announced they were closing and will relaunch in January. Pig Ate My Pizza is part of the same group that owns Travail, the much-lauded finer dining establishment that is also in Robbinsdale that has also been reinvented several times since its opening.

The relaunching of the space in January will turn Pig Ate My Pizza into Nouvelle Brewing by Travail. In a Facebook post by the owners, they explain the move as a throwback to the roots of Travail.
“In January, we will officially launch Nouvelle Brewing by Travail to reignite this sentiment of an elevated, laid-back experience with an emphasis on value and service. In the early days of Travail, we were fortunate to be the very first accounts for many local breweries. This time around, it’s all about the beer our longtime Chef-turned-Head Brewer is creating. We invite you to come in to enjoy a hybrid model of counter service and tableside flair that encapsulates the ease of a taproom but with a chef-centered experience. Come for a pint, stay for the steak.”
The owners did go on to say that pizza wasn’t a sustainable menu item anymore thanks to supply chain issues. However they did promise that pizza would at least occasionally show up on the new restaurant’s menu.
The original Travail changed the way food was served in restaurants, with the chefs coming out of the kitchen to serve food, explain the menu, clear dishes and interact with customers. That’s a vibe they are intending to bring back with Nouvelle Brewing by Travail.
They again share from their Facebook post:
“The dining room organically became a small community for the night. Where Wheel of Fortune was playing at the bar while you drank a pint and nibbled on a Foie Gras dish, delivered by the chef who made it. It was that beautiful mixture of refined flavors and warm hospitality that we’re looking to bring to this place.”
Nouvelle Brewing by Travail will become official in January where they’ll continue what they started at Pig Ate My Pizza with brewing their own beer.
For those that will miss the pies at Pig Ate My Pizza, the Travail group is not completely shutting the door on that concept.
“Pig Ate My Pizza will be open throughout December. After that, we will lovingly stash the concept away in a time capsule. It may reappear one day in some form, but for now, it’s time to look to the future.”
