A plea agreement was reached today in the tragic shooting death of a South Minneapolis DJ.

19-year-old Dijon Davis has been convicted on one count of attempted second degree murder, admitting in court that he was behind the July 2025 shooting death of Justin "Juice" Marshall, a beloved community member known for his work as a local DJ and security guard.

The Hennepin County Attorney's Office secured the plea after Davis provided previously unknown details about a verbal altercation that preceded the fatal shooting.

Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty tells WCCO Radio the sudden negotiation allowed prosecutors to secure a conviction and revealed new details.

"The fact that he was shot and killed on his, I think his 37th birthday, and there really wasn't any explanation at the time for why it happened, and the fact that it did happen was completely shocking to so many," Moriarty says.

Davis is also facing charges related to an alleged carjacking and shooting of another man that happened one month prior to Marshall's killing.

He's scheduled for sentencing on May 7.

Moriarty adss says the deal will allow Marshall's family to give their impact statements without the burden of a lengthy trial.

"I'm just very happy that the office was able to do this, to get some answers first of all, for the family and closure for the family and community," she said.

Moriarty also provided a statement on the county attorney's website:

“My thoughts are with Justin’s family as they finally have some answers from today’s guilty plea,” Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said. “This came together over the last few days, but Mr. Davis has taken responsibility and will now be serving his time for Justin’s murder. Numerous people were victimized by Mr. Davis during this period in 2025, but none more so than Justin, his family, and the community that loved him and we wanted to ensure they had their own day in court.”
