A police vehicle pursuit in the earlier hours of Thursday morning ended at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina when police found a passenger in the vehicle was seeking medical attention after suffering a fatal gunshot wound.

Carver County Sheriff Jason Kamerud shared in a press release that officers with the Eden Prairie Police Department had been in the car chase and that they discovered the 17-year-old victim was shot and taken to the hospital by friends.

“He had been transported [to the hospital] by his friends after having been shot at a residence in Chanhassen,” Kamerud said. “During the transport, Eden Prairie police attempted to make a traffic stop on the car.”

The victim died from the injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The suspected shooter is an 18-year-old female who police believe to be an acquaintance of the victim. She has been placed in custody.

“They had just gotten to the residence when the gunshot happened, and the circumstances leading up to it are” a part of the investigation, Kamerud said.

Detectives have launched an investigation into the case. A motive behind the shooting has not been released at this time, nor have the identities of the victim or suspect. However, Kamerud said they do not believe the shooting was an accident.
