A man was shot by officers Wednesday night in Minneapolis' Powderhorn neighborhood after being pulled over as a felony suspect.

Sources close to the investigation told CBS Minnesota that the suspect fired first, causing the officers to fire back which ultimately killed him. The suspect's gun was reportedly found on him by investigators.

A female passenger in the suspect's car was not hurt, neither were the officers.

The investigation is being led by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

As news of the shooting broke, residents gathered around the gas station. Some altercations with police were violent by throwing bricks and ice at officers.

Police spokesperson John Elder said he believes the officers were wearing functional body cameras.
