There are no arrests in the shooting of a pre-teen girl Saturday night in north Minneapolis.

Police say the girl and other children were playing in an alley on the 2200 block of Ilion Avenue when shots were fired from a red four-door Ford at a house.

The girl appears to have been hit by a stray bullet and remains hospitalized in critical condition.

"Any time people are throwing bullets in a residential area, that's a threat to the public," said Minneapolis city spokesman John Elder. "It's easy for us to say there's no threat to the public. But, you know, that pre-teen child had done nothing wrong and that pre-teen child was out in the public, doing what pre-teen children should do."

The shooting was reported around 8:30 p.m.
