MINNEAPOLIS, MN - OCTOBER 15: Prosector Matthew Frank arrives to the Hennepin County Government Center during a hearing in the George Floyd case on October 15, 2020 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Floyd, who grew up in the Cuney Homes complex in Houston, Texas' Third Ward was killed May 25 after being arrested outside of Cup Foods convenience store in Minneapolis for allegedly using counterfeit money. Four Minneapolis police officers were fired after a video taken by a witness was posted on social media showing Floyd's neck pinned to the ground for over 8 minutes by former officer Derek Chauvin's knee during the arrest. A prosecutor who was instrumental in getting convictions against the officers involved in the police murder of George Floyd will soon be a sitting judge.

Governor Tim Walz appointed Matt Frank to one of two vacancies on the state bench in Hennepin County yesterday.

Frank is an experienced attorney with the Attorney General's office who helped secure a guilty verdict for former MPD officer Derek Chauvin and broker deals for two other officers charged with aiding and abetting manslaughter.

Walz says that Frank will be a quote "remarkable judge who will approach the position with the understanding that justice is a process, not a result."

Frank is the second member of the Chauvin prosecution team to be named as a judge. In December, the U.S. Senate confirmed Jerry Blackwell as a federal judge in Minnesota.
