Ramsey County is making amends after charging hundreds of residents twice for their property taxes.

A spokeswoman for the county says it was an "isolated incident" with a new vendor, and affected 678 people who paid their property tax bill online between September 29 and October 2.

Residents' bank accounts were charged a second time for the same amount two weeks later.

The $3.75 million in duplicate charges have been reversed, and affected residents should see refunds in their bank accounts within a day or two.

The county is working with the vendor to determine what happened.

"The county is committed to continuing work with the electronic payment vendor, CORE, to address the error as quickly as possible to ensure all impacted customers are fully refunded and any additional impacts from the second withdrawal are understood," said a statement on the county's website.

All 678 impacted residents and businesses will receive an email update from Ramsey County on October 17 to alert them of this issue and the work to resolve it. Individuals can also call 651-266-8500 to talk with someone from Ramsey County if they have questions in the meantime.
