The Hennepin County sheriff's department Saturday released body cam video of the raid on the last known address of the man shot and killed on Dec. 30 by Minneapolis police. See it HERE.
Viewers can see weapons are seen pointed at people in the house and zip-ties were put on adults' hands -- something that has enraged some civil rights activists. Children cry. At one point, a woman asks if she can go upstairs to a child who remains there. She explains the boy has Down syndrome and cannot come down alone.
Later, another woman asks why the adults are being zip tied. A deputy responds, “That’s what we do. Everyone gets zipped. And an investigator will be in to talk to you.”
For his part, Hennepin County sheriff Dave Hutchinson says this was a high-risk warrant because there was reason to believe guns were in the home.
He says the deputies acted appropriately.
Dolal Idd was shot and killed last Wednesday and the MPD says body cam video shows Idd fired first.
Somali-American community leaders say the video is inconclusive, while the BCA is not commenting on the investigation.
Social media reaction was mixed, as the Sahan Journal pointed out. "While some commenters praised the deputy’s conduct, several activists and political leaders condemned the raid in strong terms, saying it showed a lack of concern for the family—especially the children—and displayed cultural insensitivity," they reported.
