Police in St. Cloud, Minnesota announced Tuesday that the remains of a Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin woman who disappeared nine years ago have been found and positively identified.
Police are confirming that the skeletal remains discovered by a property owner last Saturday are that of 23-year old Shannah Marie Boiteau, who left her home in Chippewa Falls on June 21, 2016.
Authorities believed she fled Wisconsin to avoid being arrested for a probation violation.
Investigators are still working with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension to help solve the case, but so far there have been no arrests.
The family posted on social media, that it is with "great sorrow and sadness that we have to report that we have found Shannah Boiteau and she has gained her angel wings," the post said.
The family requested privacy in their time of grief and shared appreciation for supporters who did not give up hope of finding Shannah alive.
