Minneapolis Police are responding to a shooting south of downtown with multiple victims and at least one fatality.
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said that four people have been shot at Chicago and Franklin in South Minneapolis.
"It appears that the shooting occurred between the alleyway and the sidewalk just past the market as we go towards Franklin Avenue," Chief O'Hara told reporters.
He adds that there were multiple shooters and that this intersection has been something of a “hotspot” for this type of activity.
"We've been working both with our investigative units and our South Side Community React team to try and do preventative work, obviously in this area, but this is a location that has historically flared up," O'Hara explains.
All of the victims are adults and one person is dead. The other three are being treated for both critical and non-life threatening injuries. He says there were multiple shooters. There haven't been any arrests.
O'Hara did say he thought this wasn't a standalone incident and the shooting could be connected to some other violence that has taken place in the area. He says the sale of narcotics in the area is the main cause of issues in that particular neighborhood.
